LiDAR and Mobile scanning is a perfect approach for surface audits on runways as interferences, compared to manual surveying, is greatly reduced due to the speed at which data is captured.
By flying over the runway one can capture more accurate and detailed information of the apron and runway facility reducing safety and security risks and delivering a better survey solution. Since we are flying overhead we also extract aerial imagery which assist both the owner operator and design teams with planning by providing them with imagery overlaid on top of elevation data such as spot heights, contours and drainage patterns.
Terrestrial scanning has also been used in airports to capture hangers, terminal buildings and petrol farms etc. for various engineering functions and asset management of the airport facilities. Please refer to our page on process plants for other uses of 3D Scanning that could be applicable in this type of environment.
